The Submittal Assistant Just Got a Major Upgrade

We've been working hard to make submittal review faster and more reliable for architects using Part3. Here's what's new.

Reviewing submittals is one of the most critical parts of construction administration. It's also one of the most painstaking. You're cross-referencing documents, hunting for the right paragraph in a spec you may have written months ago, and making sure nothing slips through before it reaches the field. One missed substitution, one gap in installer qualifications, and you're dealing with the consequences long after construction wraps.

We've been thinking hard about how to make that process better. Here's what's new.

1. AI recommendations (not just hints)

The previous Submittal Assistant surfaced general review hints. They were helpful starting points, but often too broad to act on directly. The new version works differently.

It reads your submittal against the relevant spec section and generates specific, actionable AI recommendations. For each finding, it breaks down the spec requirement, the evidence found in the submittal, and the exact gap, so you know precisely what the issue is and why it was flagged, not just which section to look at.

Each recommendation tells you exactly what the issue is, not just which section to look at.

2. Linked citations

Every AI recommendation now includes direct citations to both the spec and the submittal. Click a spec reference and a side-by-side viewer opens so you can read the relevant spec language right next to the submittal. Click a submittal reference and the PDF scrolls to the exact page. No more toggling between documents or hunting for the right paragraph. The AI shows its work so you can verify and move on.

3. Smart connection to the spec

The previous version required uploading a full spec manual, often hundreds of pages and sometimes out of date. The new Submittal Assistant uses individually uploaded spec sections from the new Specifications feature in ProjectFiles. This means the AI is working with the right spec, for the right scope, every time. If a spec section hasn't been uploaded yet, the assistant will prompt you to add it before generating recommendations.

4. Easy-add recommendations

When a recommendation looks right, click 'Add to Review' and it's populated directly into your review comments and your official cover page response. From there, just double-check, adjust as needed, and submit.

The assistant also recommends an appropriate review status, whether that's ‘Reviewed as Noted’, ‘Revise and Resubmit’, or ‘Rejected’, based on what it found, giving you a confident starting point before you finalize your response.

5. Wider review coverage

The AI now checks across more categories than before. Where it previously covered manufacturers, colors, warranties, and testing, it now also includes product and model verification, installer experience requirements, mockup and sample obligations, and training or meeting prerequisites specified in the contract documents. This means fewer things slip through the cracks during review.

6. Redesigned review experience

The submittal review interface has been rebuilt to give you a cleaner, more consistent experience, whether you're working on a Part3-native project or a Procore-connected one. The new layout puts your review tools, AI recommendations, and document viewer in one streamlined workspace.

We're continuing to improve the Submittal Assistant based on how you use it. Every recommendation you add or dismiss helps the AI get smarter over time.
